What Do I Need to Bring Kayaking?

We have been taking guided tours in Little Sarasota Bay for over a decade, and we’ve had customers from all walks of life and all age and experience levels. One great thing about kayaking is that nearly everyone can do it. Here are some tips that will make your tour even more enjoyable:

Drinking-Water: Being out on the water in the Florida sun for a few hours means you’ll want to rehydrate. We launch out of a county park, and although there are bathroom facilities, there is nowhere to purchase water.

Flip flops or Water Shoes: Getting in and out of your kayak, you will definitely get your feet wet. Wear cheap flip flops or shoes you don’t mind getting wet with saltwater.

Sunscreen: Remember, it’s Florida. If you’re from up north please understand that our sun is intense. You will burn if you don’t use sunscreen.

Polarized Sunglasses: In order to protect your eyes and have more clarity when we encounter wildlife, wear polarized sunglasses.

Snacks: Tours are approximately two hours long, so, by all means, bring a snack if you’d like.

Electronics can be protected: Sea Life Kayak provides dry bags to all of our guests we take out on Little Sarasota Bay.

We make every effort to ensure guests of Sea Life Kayak have the time of their life out on Little Sarasota Bay. If you have questions we haven’t answered, by all means, reach out.

One of the most commonly asked questions from our guests looking to kayak through the Lido Key mangrove tunnels is,

“Can I come on the tour if I don’t know how to kayak?”

The answer is very simple: YES.

There is a skill level in kayaking, but it is not difficult for beginners. Our guides give you a basic lesson before we head out and almost every beginner finds kayaking much easier than they’d imagined it would be. And our guides are there to help you along, so don’t worry. Just get out on the water an enjoy yourself.
